Conservative Glamour. The reemergence of luxury on the runways was approached from a smarter, leaner, savvier vantage for fall 2010. There were no overt, in-your-face riches, more a subtle return to quality and classic style on most of the runways this season.
Urban Warrior. Designers have had longtime fascination with the strong woman. For fall 2010 this is translated into elevated suiting, rich leather and modern tech fabrications. Outerwear had strong architectural and sculptural details as seen by Calvin Klein as well as Akris and sophisticated trenches had a sleek spirit as seen by designers such as Narciso Rodriquez and Altrazurra.
Bohemian rhapsody. There was a hint this season, though we have seen more in the past there was enough to mention. The looks still had an element of posh to them. Jeans were paired back to silk and velvet, while chains and grommets were employed on leathers, suede and distressed twill.
Eclectic yet ladylike. She likes mixing her patterns, prints and textures- though she keeps them within a color story so they make sense and still look stylish. She knows how to wear color and she layers selectively making a look all her own. Classic, iconic designers such as Carolina Hererra, and Oscar de la Renta are masters in this realm.
The more layers the better. Think a blouse under a vest under a blazer, or a turtleneck under shirting under a cardigan. Seen on the runways of Jason Wu, Peter Som.
Neat Knits. They appeared too many times on the runway to go unnoticed. Designers used sequins, embroidery, netting, unusual sillhouettes or dramatic design details to take these necessary objects beyond the norm.
Go with the faux. Coats and shrugs were found in lavish fur this season, with many designers opting for faux over genuine. Some designers used fur as trimming to spruce up their looks or give them a touch of that "conservative glamour".
Neutrals. Designers showed many variations of neutrals on the runway, from rich blacks shown by Vera Wang to grays and camel tones from favorites like Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors. Akris often employs neutrals as the backdrop to allow the detailing of their pieces to be the focal point. White and ivory made several appearances. Neutrals have become firmly established as the foundation of fine dressing.
The turtleneck. It gets a little alluring, think shine, sleeker fit, details at the neck and waistline.
Velvet. When velvet shows up in all the right forms, (Karen Walker, Thakoon and Doncaster of course), it makes us wonder why we don't wear it more often.
Capes & Ponchos. Either tiny and tailored or big and dramatic, the cape is definitely our new fall cover-up of choice as it was with Temperley London, Altazurra, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, Rag & Bone and Vena Cava.
Shine on the bottom!
It is a bold
and sophisticated choice- which we LOVE.
Others who felt the same; Phillip Lim and
Oscar de la Renta.
Being beautiful and confident.
